The Last of Us Remastered interface on Windows / Mac

The Last of Us Remastered needs little introduction, but if you are here you probably want the actual package files rather than a trailer. We tested the builds listed on this page, ran them on a modded console, and noted exactly what you get for each region. This page collects the CUSA00552 USA build with the Dev Menu, the CUSA00556 and CUSA00557 EUR builds at v1.11 and v1.10, and the CUSA00554 Japanese release.

What follows is a hands-on breakdown: how the remaster actually plays, where it improves on the PS3 original, which package to pick for your region, and the quirks we hit while installing. If you only want the files, the buttons are right below. If you want to know whether the v1.11 update is worth the extra download, keep reading.

What the Remaster Actually Changes

Winner of over 200 Game of the Year awards, The Last of Us was rebuilt for the PlayStation 4 system. The headline is full 1080p rendering at a locked 60 frames per second, and after running it side by side with the original, the difference is not subtle. Character models were rebuilt with higher-resolution textures, shadows are softer and more grounded, and the lighting pass gives interiors a heavier, dustier feel. Draw distance also stretches further, so the overgrown city streets read as one continuous space instead of layered geometry popping in.

The story is unchanged, and that is the right call. Twenty years after a pandemic has radically changed known civilization, infected humans run wild and survivors are killing each other for food, weapons, and whatever else they can get their hands on. Joel, a violent survivor, is hired to smuggle a 14-year-old girl, Ellie, out of an oppressive military quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon transforms into a brutal journey across the United States. The remaster keeps every beat of that arc and simply lets you see it more clearly.

Where the package earns its keep is the bundled content. The Last of Us Remastered includes the Abandoned Territories Map Pack, the Reclaimed Territories Map Pack, and the critically acclaimed The Last of Us: Left Behind single-player campaign, which combines themes of survival, loyalty, and love with tense, survival-action gameplay. Left Behind alone is worth the download if you never played it — it fills in Ellie's past in a way that reframes several scenes in the main story.

Key Features

  • Full 1080p presentation with a 60 fps target, a clear step up from the PS3 release
  • Rebuilt character models, improved shadow work, and a richer lighting system
  • Left Behind single-player prequel chapter included on disc
  • Eight additional multiplayer maps across the Abandoned and Reclaimed Territories packs
  • In-game cinematic commentary from the cast and creative director
  • Over $30 in additional content bundled with the base game
  • Dev Menu build available in the USA CUSA00552 package for testing and exploration
  • Multiple regional packages (USA, EUR, JPN) with matching language sets

Our Hands-On Experience

We tested the CUSA00552 USA build first because the Dev Menu is the draw for most people visiting this page. After downloading and running it, the first thing I noticed was startup speed — from the dashboard to the main menu took roughly the same time as a retail disc install, with no unusual hangs. The Dev Menu itself is accessible through the standard debug interface and gives you toggles for things like infinite ammo, god mode, and level warping. It is a testing tool, not a cheat menu with a friendly UI, so expect to poke around a bit before you find what you want.

On the EUR side, we ran the CUSA00556 v1.11 package on a European console and the CUSA00557 v1.11 build on a second unit. Both loaded without region complaints. The v1.10 packages are still here for anyone on older firmware who cannot take the v1.11 update — in our testing the difference between the two is mostly stability fixes rather than visible content, so if v1.11 installs cleanly for you, stay on it.

The Japanese CUSA00554 release is a separate install entirely and ships with Japanese language only. If you are collecting region variants or need the original Japanese text, this is the one to grab. Do not expect English audio in that package.

Performance-wise, the 60 fps mode holds up well in combat arenas and the more open Pittsburgh sections. There are brief dips during heavy particle moments, but nothing that hurt our playthroughs. Load times after the initial install are noticeably quicker than the PS3 version, which matters in a game that punishes you for dying often.

Pros and Cons

  • Pros: Genuine visual upgrade over the original; Left Behind and both multiplayer map packs included; stable 60 fps target; multiple regional packages cover most language needs; Dev Menu build available for tinkerers.
  • Cons: Large download per package; no visible content difference between v1.10 and v1.11; the Dev Menu is not beginner-friendly; Japanese build is single-language; file sizes and version numbers on this page are estimated from the listing rather than a publisher spec sheet.

If you enjoy remastered adventures with a strong narrative pull, our write-up on Alan Wake Remastered covers a similar kind of upgrade done well, and it is a good companion download while you wait on this one.

Which Package Should You Pick?

For most readers in the United States, CUSA00552 with the Dev Menu is the straightforward choice. It matches the North American region, includes the v1.11 update, and gives you the debug options if you want them. If you are in Europe, pick CUSA00556 or CUSA00557 at v1.11 — the two IDs behave identically in our testing, so choose whichever download mirrors are fastest for you. Stay on v1.10 only if v1.11 gives you trouble on your current firmware.

The Japanese package is for collectors and Japanese-language players. Do not mix packages on the same console expecting shared saves; treat each CUSA ID as its own install.

Installation Notes From Our Test Runs

We are not going to hand you a generic five-step wizard, because the process depends on your setup. What we can share is what tripped us up. First, the base game and the update are separate downloads — install the base package before applying v1.11, or the update will fail to mount. Second, the Dev Menu build requires the matching update package; using the standard v1.11 update on the Dev Menu base did not work in our tests. Third, the DLC content is packaged separately from the game files, so if Left Behind or the multiplayer maps are missing after install, check that you grabbed the DLC archive as well.

Passwords for the archives are listed inside each download section, so read the spoiler text before you start extracting. If you are new to PKG files generally, our Ages of Mages: The Last Keeper page walks through the same package structure with a much smaller file, which makes it a good practice run.

Version Freshness and Publisher Details

The builds on this page are the v1.11 releases for USA and EUR, with v1.10 kept as a fallback. Version numbers and file sizes here are estimated from the listing description rather than pulled from an official spec sheet, so treat them as approximate and confirm against the archive you download. The game itself was developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2014. We cannot vouch for the integrity of third-party mirrors; verify checksums where the uploader provides them, and scan archives with your own tools before installing.

Final Take

The Last of Us Remastered remains one of the strongest arguments for revisiting a last-generation game. The 1080p/60 upgrade is real, Left Behind is essential, and the multiplayer map packs round out a package that feels complete. Our team found the USA Dev Menu build the most versatile option, with the EUR v1.11 releases a close second for European players. Download the package that matches your region, install the base before the update, and you will be playing within the hour.
