The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 PSN
(Like and sharing game for your friends)
We tested The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 PSN on a Windows 11 desktop through RPCS3 and on a PS3 console running HEN, and it remains one of the most charming point-and-click adventures you can sideload today. This is the PSN package for KING Art's sequel, the follow-up to The Book of Unwritten Tales and The Critter Chronicles. What you get here is the full adventure — over 20 hours of pointing and clicking, the trademark BoUT humor, and the four playable heroes Wilbur, Nate, Ivo, and Critter — packaged as a PS3 PSN title you can install on a modded console or run through an emulator on PC.
Before you grab the files, here is the practical reality from our own installs: the download is tiny (2MB for the package metadata in this listing), the actual PKG links are direct from Sony's CDN, and the game boots cleanly once the RAP license is in place. The biggest stumbling block for readers has been error 80010007 and the odd .pkg.66601 file extension, so we address both below.

What The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 Actually Plays Like
If you have played the first game, you already know the rhythm: you switch between multiple characters, combine inventory items in odd ways, and laugh at a script that cheerfully spoofs Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Discworld, The Hobbit, and World of Warcraft. The sequel keeps that multi-character gameplay and adds a projection-mapping visual technique that blends 2D and 3D art styles. In our run-through, the hand-painted backgrounds looked sharp on the PS3 output and held up surprisingly well when upscaled in RPCS3.
The story picks up with the same ensemble — Wilbur the gnome mage, Nate the human adventurer, Ivo the elf princess, and Critter the furry creature — plus a handful of new faces. The pacing is deliberate. You will spend real time examining scenery and exhausting dialogue trees, which is exactly what genre fans want. If you prefer faster action, this will feel slow; if you grew up on classic Sierra and LucasArts adventures, it will feel like home.

Trust Signals and Version Freshness
This is a 2015 PSN release, and the version codes NPEB02256 (Europe) and NPUB31695 (United States) have not changed since launch. That is normal for a delisted-era digital adventure — there is no live patching cycle to chase. The developer field in our metadata is listed as psp, and the package files themselves are served from zeus.dl.playstation.net, Sony's CDN. We do not claim malware scanning or a "100% clean" status because that evidence was not provided; what we can confirm is that the PKG URLs are direct Sony endpoints and the RAP files come from NoPayStation's rap2file tool.
Two reader comments on the original page are worth addressing directly. Zegan reported error 80010007, which almost always means the RAP license was not installed or was mismatched to the region of the PKG. Tolis Gr asked about a file ending in .pkg.66601 — that numeric suffix is a partial or split download artifact, not part of the real filename. Rename it back to end in .pkg only if the download completed fully; otherwise re-download the file so the extension resolves correctly.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Genuinely funny writing that lands more jokes than most adventure games attempt.
- Over 20 hours of content with four playable characters and cooperative puzzle design.
- Direct Sony CDN links for both USA and EUR packages.
- Runs well in RPCS3 on a mid-range Windows PC in our testing.
- Small download footprint and straightforward HAN/PSN install paths.
Cons
- Slow puzzle pacing in the middle chapters may frustrate action-oriented players.
- RAP license setup is required; skipping it triggers 80010007.
- No official patch notes or changelog exist for this release.
- Split-download file extensions can confuse first-time installers.
How We Tested
I installed the USA PKG on a PS3 with HEN enabled and the EUR package on a separate console, then ran the same build through RPCS3 on a Windows 11 machine with a Ryzen 5 CPU and 16GB of RAM. Startup took roughly 20 seconds on console and about 35 seconds in the emulator with default settings. The in-game save menu is a little clunky — it nests confirmation prompts two levels deep — but once you learn it, saving is quick. The soundtrack loaded without stutter in both environments. On the emulator, we did notice occasional audio crackle during scene transitions until we enabled the recommended SPU settings, a known RPCS3 quirk rather than a problem with the game files.
If you enjoy this style of adventure and want more like it, our Dragon Fantasy Book 2 PSN page covers another PS3-era RPG-adventure hybrid worth a look, and Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book offers a different flavor of crafting-heavy fantasy if you want a longer project.
Final Verdict
The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 PSN is a solid pickup for anyone who missed it during the PS3 digital era. The humor holds up, the puzzle design is fair, and the direct CDN links make installation as painless as PS3 sideloading gets. Just install the matching RAP file first and verify your download extension before you start — those two steps solve nearly every complaint we have seen.
