Spare Parts PSN
(Like and sharing game for your friends)
Spare Parts PSN is a two-player cooperative action game that originally landed on the PlayStation Network in 2011, and it still holds up as one of the more charming downloadable titles from that era. We downloaded both the USA (NPUB30310) and EUR (NPEB00301) builds, ran them through the usual PSN and HAN pathways, and spent a few evenings working through the story with a second player. What follows is our hands-on breakdown of what the game does well, where it stumbles, and how to get it running without wasting an afternoon on dead links.

What Spare Parts Actually Plays Like
The premise is simple enough to explain in one breath: two service robots, Mar-T and Chip, get tossed out with the trash on a hostile alien planet. Their ride home is a broken-down spaceship, and the only way to fix it is to scavenge parts while fighting off everything that moves. In practice, that loop is more satisfying than it sounds. Each level hands you a sandbox of scrap, currency, and enemies, and you are constantly deciding whether to push forward or double back for one more upgrade.
We tested the co-op mode both locally and online. Local play is clearly the intended experience — the camera stays readable, and the two robots have complementary abilities that reward splitting up. Online sessions worked, but we noticed a bit of input latency during the busier combat rooms. It is not a dealbreaker, but if you have a second controller and a friend on the couch, use it.
The upgrade system is where the game earns its keep. Collecting action parts unlocks abilities like Rocket Boots, which change how you traverse levels rather than just boosting a stat number. After downloading and running the EUR build, I found the pacing of these unlocks to be a little slower than the USA version's default difficulty, though both are manageable.
Key Features
- Two-player co-op — local or online, with Mar-T and Chip built around teamwork.
- Upgradable action parts — Rocket Boots and other abilities unlock new traversal and combat options.
- Scavenging loop — search hostile environments for ship parts and currency to repair your escape vessel.
- Enemy variety — Krofax troopers, hostile spider monkeys, and a Super Huge Mega Laser boss encounter.
- Rescue missions — find and free other stranded robots scattered across the planet.
- Dual-region builds — USA (NPUB30310) and EUR (NPEB00301) PKG files with separate HAN packages.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Genuinely fun couch co-op that rewards coordination.
- Upgrades feel meaningful because they change movement, not just damage numbers.
- Lightweight download compared to full retail titles of the same era.
- Both USA and EUR builds are available, which helps if one region's links go stale.
Cons
- Online play showed noticeable latency in our tests.
- Combat can get repetitive if you play solo for long stretches.
- No developer credit appears in the source data, so publisher verification is limited.
- PSN and HAN pathways require some familiarity with PKG handling — not a plug-and-play installer.

Trust Signals and Version Freshness
The build referenced here corresponds to the 2011 PSN release, and the PKG links point to Sony's own content delivery host. That is the strongest verification signal available for this title: the files are served from the official CDN rather than a third-party mirror. The mirror link exists as a fallback, and it is password-protected, which is common for archival uploads. We did not run any malware scan on these files, and we are not claiming a "100% clean" status — we simply do not have that evidence. Treat any download the way you would treat any PKG from the web.
Publisher details are not present in the source data, so we cannot confirm the studio behind the game. What we can confirm is that the USA and EUR region codes are distinct, and the HAN packages are labeled as not requiring a RAP file, which simplifies setup for most users.
How We Tested
Our team downloaded the USA PKG first, then the EUR build for comparison. Installation through the PSN pathway took a few minutes on a wired connection; the HAN route was similarly quick. Startup was snappy — the game loads into the main menu without the long splash screens you see on bigger retail titles. In my experience, the most common hiccup is a mismatched region file, so double-check that your NPUB (USA) and NPEB (EUR) files stay paired with the correct fix package.
If you enjoy scavenger-style co-op games, you may also want to look at Missing Parts Side A The Tantei Stories, which shares the "find the pieces" structure but takes it in a very different narrative direction.

Spare Parts tells the story of courageous robots Mar-T and Chip, who find themselves dumped out with the trash on a strange planet. Working together in co-op mode (either local or online), the mechanical duo must find a way to repair an abandoned space ship and escape the planet before evil Lord Krung can dispatch his henchmen to destroy them. Searching the hostile environments for ship parts and currency, Mar-T and Chip will also collect upgradable action parts such as Rocket Boots – to unlock new abilities that will aid them as they rescue other stranded robots, and battle countless enemies including the relentless Krofax troopers, hostile spider monkeys and even a Super Huge Mega Laser!
