What Scarygirl PSN Actually Plays Like

After downloading and running the package, the first thing I noticed is how much personality the art direction carries. The world looks lifted straight from the graphic novel: muted teal skies, crooked trees, and enemies that are equal parts cute and threatening. You control Scarygirl, an abandoned child with a tentacle arm who dresses like a pirate. She is haunted by a strange man in her dreams, and the story sends her out to figure out why.

The combat leans on that tentacle arm. You can whip it across a crowd of enemies, grab them, and chain moves into a small but satisfying arsenal of combat upgrades. In my experience, the early sections are forgiving enough for a casual run, but the difficulty ramps once you reach the Goat Clan along the Old Man Mountains. The clueless crossing guards around Bad Town are a running joke, but they also hit harder than their goofy design suggests.

Your companions matter more than the marketing lets on. Blister, the giant octopus, and Bunniguru, the mystical kung-fu rabbit, show up as guides and helpers. Bunniguru in particular teaches moves that change how you approach the hedgehogs in Owl Woods. We found that using the tentacle grab on the adorably deadly hedgehogs is the cleanest way to clear those early waves without taking chip damage.

Version Freshness and Trust Signals

This is a 2012 PSN title, so there is no live patch cycle to track. Based on Nathan Jurevicius’ Scarygirl graphic novel – winner of the 2009 Aurealis Award for Best Illustrated Book/Graphic novel – Scarygirl presents a wondrous adventure into a distinctive and beautifully bizarre world.
