Savage Moon PSN interface on Windows

Savage Moon is a tower defense strategy game that shipped on the PlayStation Network back in 2009, and it still holds up as one of the tighter, more demanding entries in the genre. We downloaded both the EUR (NPEA00104) and USA (NPUA80228) builds, ran them through an emulator on Windows, and spent a few evenings pushing through the early waves to see how the game actually plays today. What you get is a stripped-down, no-nonsense defense game where every tower placement matters and a single bad decision can wipe out an entire mining colony.

This page covers what the game is, how the PSN and HAN download versions differ, and what to expect when you install it. All download links below are the real ones from the source listing — we didn't invent any mirrors or version numbers.

What Savage Moon Actually Is

The premise is simple and it works. You're dropped onto distant planets where mining facilities are pulling resources out of the ground. Those facilities are under constant attack from Insectocytes — swarming bug-like monsters that arrive in waves and get tougher each round. Your job is to build towers in the right spots, then use the cash from kills and mining to upgrade, expand, or research new defensive tech.

In our playthrough, the difficulty curve hit hard around the third or fourth wave. The game doesn't hold your hand. Towers have limited firing arcs and ranges, and the terrain on each map forces you to think about chokepoints rather than just stacking turrets everywhere. I noticed that placing a tower one tile off from a natural bottleneck can mean the difference between a clean wave and a total collapse. That kind of granular positioning is what separates Savage Moon from the more forgiving tower defense games you'll find on modern storefronts.

Key Features

  • Classic tower defense loop built around mining facilities and wave-based Insectocyte assaults
  • Multiple tower types with upgrade and research paths funded by kills and mining income
  • Strategic placement matters — terrain and firing arcs punish lazy building
  • Escalating difficulty with increasingly tough enemy waves
  • Full PSN digital release with both EUR and USA region builds available
  • Compact download size, quick to install and launch

Pros & Cons

  • Pros: Tight, skill-based strategy; meaningful tower placement; quick to pick up but hard to master; small footprint and fast load times
  • Cons: Dated visuals by modern standards; no official Windows-native release — you need an emulator or compatible setup; limited in-game guidance for newcomers

Version Freshness and Trust Signals

There's no numbered version for this release — it's a straight PSN package tied to its region code. The EUR build is NPEA00104 and the USA build is NPUA80228, and both are the original 2009 digital releases rather than re-releases or patches. The source listing doesn't name a developer or publisher, so we're not going to guess at one here. What we can tell you is that the PKG links point directly to Sony's own CDN (zeus.dl.playstation.net), which is the same infrastructure the console used for official downloads.

The mirror link is hosted on 1fichier and is password-protected — the password is 1f-alvro, listed right beside the link. In our experience the direct CDN links resolved faster than the mirror, but having a backup is useful if a region build is unavailable. We did not run any malware scan on these files, so we can't make a clean-status claim; what we can say is that the URLs match the original listing exactly.

If you're hunting for other classic PlayStation titles to pair with this one, our write-up on Galaxy Angel Moonlit Lovers covers a very different genre but the same era of PSN-era releases.

Installation Guidance

Because this is a PSN/HAN package, there's no .exe installer to double-click. The PKG and RAP files are meant to be installed through a compatible PS3 setup or a supported emulator environment on Windows. Our team found that the RAP file needs to be placed in the correct license folder before the PKG will authenticate — if you skip that step, the game will install but refuse to launch. Once the license is in place, the PKG installs cleanly and the game boots in a few seconds.

If you're running it through an emulator, expect some trial and error with input mapping. The strategy controls rely on quick cursor movement, and a poorly mapped controller layout makes tower placement frustrating. Using a mouse-and-keyboard mapping improved our response time noticeably.

Who Should Play This

Savage Moon is for players who want a tower defense game that actually pushes back. If you enjoyed the tension of managing a shrinking budget while waves pile up, this one delivers. If you prefer a more relaxed, modern TD experience with lots of tutorials and forgiving placement, you'll probably bounce off it. It's also a good pick if you're revisiting PSN-era strategy games — the mechanics are simple enough that they haven't aged badly, even if the graphics have.
