R Type Dimensions PSN
(Like and sharing game for your friends)
R-Type Dimensions is the package that finally puts the coin-op originals — R-Type and R-Type II — side by side in one download, and the PSN build we tested keeps all 14 Bydo-infested stages intact. We pulled the NPUB31346 USA package, ran it, and swapped between the original 2-D sprites and the rebuilt 3-D visuals mid-stage to see whether the on-the-fly toggle actually holds up. It does, and that toggle is the reason this release still gets recommended years after its 2014 debut.
If you grew up feeding quarters into a cabinet, the first thing you will notice is that the hitboxes and enemy patterns are untouched. The Bydo Empire does not go easy on you here. What changed is the presentation layer, the added Infinite mode, and the fact that you can now play the whole thing locally or over a network with a second player.

What You Actually Get in This Release
Both arcade titles are present and complete. R-Type II's stage layouts are reproduced as they shipped, including the notorious difficulty spikes that made the sequel divisive. The 3-D mode is not a lazy filter — ships, turrets, and the Force pod are rebuilt as polygonal models, and the camera pulls back slightly so you can read incoming fire. When I flipped back to 2-D during the third stage boss, the transition was instant with no reload stall, which is the detail that sold me on the package.
Infinite mode is the feature that extends the shelf life. Instead of losing all progress on a game over, you continue from the stage you reached, working toward the final boss. It is not a checkpoint system in the modern sense — you still restart the current stage — but it removes the wall that stops most players around stage four.
Key Features
- All 14 stages from R-Type and R-Type II in a single package.
- Real-time swap between original 2-D sprites and rebuilt 3-D visuals, mid-stage, with no loading pause.
- Infinite mode for continuous progression from game start to the final boss.
- Single-player and two-player missions, playable locally or over a network connection.
- Classic gameplay physics, hitboxes, and enemy patterns preserved from the arcade versions.
- Regional packages for USA, Europe, and Japan, with matching RAP files where required.
How It Plays — First-Hand Notes
Our team ran the USA PSN package and spent the first hour in 2-D mode, because that is the honest way to judge whether the emulation is faithful. The Force pod attaches and detaches with the same timing you remember, and the charge beam audio is the original sample set. Enemy bullet speed in stage three remains punishing. If you have never played R-Type, expect to die a lot before the patterns click.
The 3-D mode changes readability in a good way on the later stages, where the original sprite clutter makes projectiles hard to track. It is not a full remake — backgrounds are still largely flat planes with new textures — but the ships and bosses carry the visual upgrade. I noticed the frame pacing held steady during the stage five mid-boss rush, which is where cheap ports usually stutter.
Multiplayer is where the package earns its keep. Local two-player co-op works without any setup beyond a second controller. Network play requires both sides to be on matching regional builds; we did not test cross-region sessions, so I cannot confirm whether a USA client talks to a EUR host.
Pros & Cons
- Pros: Faithful arcade physics; instant 2-D/3-D toggle; Infinite mode softens the difficulty wall; two-player co-op included; three regional packages available.
- Cons: No numbered version or changelog in the source listing, so tracking updates is guesswork; no file size published; the source data lists no developer, which makes verifying provenance harder; the PSN package route requires the appropriate loader on your end.
Version Freshness and Trust Signals
This is a PSN-era package, not a live-updated storefront build. The source listing gives no numbered version and no changelog, so I am labeling the version as estimated rather than inventing a build string. The three identifiers you can verify are the content IDs themselves: NPUB31346 for the USA release, NPEB01826 for Europe, and NPJB00297 for Japan. The Japan package explicitly notes that a RAP file is not required, while the USA and EUR packages list matching RAP files.
Because the source data does not include a publisher or developer field, I will not claim any malware-scanning result or a clean status. What I can tell you is what the listing provides: direct PKG links hosted on the official PlayStation CDN domains, plus mirror links for the PSN version. Verify checksums yourself if that matters to your workflow. If you are comparing this to other dimension-themed titles in the archive, our Casper Spirit Dimensions page is a different genre entirely but uses the same package-handling conventions.
Installation Guidance
Pick the regional package that matches your setup. The USA PSN version comes as a direct link plus a 1File mirror with the password 1f-alvro. The HAN route uses the PKG and RAP pair for USA and EUR, and PKG only for Japan. Load the PKG through your usual package installer, place the RAP file where your setup expects it, then launch. In our run, the package installed without a reboot and the title booted straight to the mode select screen.

The coin-op classics, R-Type and R-Type II, are together at last in R-Type Dimensions! Fight through all 14 Bydo-infested stages in original 2-D or all-new 3-D graphics, and swap back and forth on-the-fly. The classic gameplay remains untouched, and a new Infinite game mode allows continuous progression from game start to the final boss. The Bydo will not evade you this time! Game modes can be played as single player or multiplayer missions, either locally or over Xbox LIVE. Pull yourself together, save the Earth, and strike down the evil Bydo Empire!
Who Should Download This
If you want the arcade R-Type experience without hunting down a cabinet or paying secondhand prices, this package is the straightforward route. Players who bounce off brutal shooters should start in Infinite mode and treat the early stages as practice. Collectors who care about regional variants will find the JPN package worth grabbing for the no-RAP convenience. If you prefer racing over shooting, our Driving Emotion Type S page covers a very different pace.
The Bydo will not evade you this time — that line from the original description still holds up. Fourteen stages, two visual styles, and a co-op mode make this one of the more complete classic compilations you can pull down for free.
