Need for Speed Rivals interface on Windows / Mac

We spent a full weekend with Need for Speed Rivals on our test machine, and the first thing that hit us was how quickly the tone sets in. Redview County opens with a chase already in progress, sirens cutting through the rain, and your car pinned between a roadblock and a helicopter. That opening tells you exactly what this 2013 racer is about: an open-road war between cops and racers where every speed point you earn can be taken away by the other side. If you grew up on the arcade side of the NFS series, this one sits right at the intersection of high-speed spectacle and risk-reward scoring.

What You Get in This Download

This package covers both regional builds of the game, so you can pick the one that matches your console or emulator setup. The USA build is CUSA00113 and the EUR build is CUSA00168. Each one includes the base game plus the 1.03 update. In our testing, the EUR build ran with the wider language set (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish for voice, and Dutch added for subtitles), while the USA build ships with English, French, and Spanish for both voice and menus. If you want the broadest language coverage, go EUR. If you want the version most US players reference in guides, go USA.

Welcome to Redview County, where a street-racing rivalry between cops and racers never stops as both sides compete in an all-out war featuring the fastest cars, mods and technology in a gritty open road environment. Play as either a cop or racer, where each side of the law has its own set of high stakes challenges, rewards and consequences. Risk everything in the ultimate high stakes rivalry.

-Cops vs. Racers – Racers are lone wolves out for their own glory; driving agile cars built for high speed racing and epic chases. Cops work in teams to hunt down and bust racers using the full power of the police force. Intense racing moments are made even more thrilling with access to upgradeable pursuit technology customized to each side.

-High Stakes Rivalry – Watch the stakes grow through a new scoring system that lets racers risk their speed points to shoot for higher multipliers and greater rewards, or bank their speed points safely when they return to a hideout. The more risk you take on, the faster you can progress, but get busted by the cops and they take your speed points as a reward.

-AllDrive – This revolutionary new feature lets you seamlessly join a world where your friends are already racing and chasing. Single-player and multiplayer are no longer isolated game modes. There are no lobbies, no waiting; everything is seamless.

-Your Car, Your Identity – Power up your car with the latest upgrades in pursuit technology and personalize your bodywork with fresh paintjobs, liveries, custom license plates, rims, and decals to show off your car to the world. With millions of potential combinations you can save different configurations and keep a variety of car packages on alert to leave your mark no matter the situation.

-NFS Network – NFS Network will be the hub for continuing your racing and chasing with access to stats, leaderboards and content uploads direct from the game. Breakdown whats happening in your friends worlds in real time to see how AllDrive has shaped who owns what in their world. Also in the Network, engage with Need for Speed Rivals from the web, tablet, or mobile in Overwatch, a mini-game that connects you with the console/PC game by letting you help or hinder your friends to earn points towards exclusive paintjobs. Keep a watch on all the other players in your world using a real-time map that locates the cops before you start a race, or quickly find out which hideout is closest for you or your friend to bank Speed Points. Drop police road blocks and helicopters, or alert friends of inbound cops.

Redview County: How the Rivalry Actually Plays

The premise is simple enough to explain in one sentence, but the loop is deeper than it looks. You pick a side. Racers are lone wolves chasing speed points and personal glory in agile cars built for long chases. Cops work in packs, using pursuit tech and the full weight of the police force to hunt and bust them. Both sides earn speed points, and both sides face the same gamble: bank what you have at a hideout, or push for a higher multiplier and risk losing everything if you get taken down. I noticed this tension immediately — after a few races, you start making decisions based on how much you're carrying rather than how fast you want to go.

That scoring system is the heart of the game. Racers can shoot for bigger multipliers, but getting busted means the cops keep your points as a reward. Cops face the opposite pressure: every racer who escapes is a lost opportunity. In our sessions, the risk curve felt well tuned. Early races are forgiving, and by the time you're running high-value events, one wrong turn into a roadblock stings. If you enjoy arcade racers that reward nerve over perfect racing lines, this design will click with you.

Cops vs. Racers: Two Campaigns, One World

You don't pick a side once and forget it. Both campaigns run in the same open world, and switching between them changes how you read the map. As a racer, you're scanning for hideouts and escape routes. As a cop, you're scanning for ambush points and patrol patterns. The upgradeable pursuit technology differs by side too, so the tools you unlock as a cop (roadblocks, helicopters, EMP-style gadgets) don't transfer to the racer campaign. Our team found this kept both playthroughs fresh rather than feeling like a reskin.

AllDrive: No Lobbies, No Waiting

AllDrive is the feature that aged best. The game drops you into a shared world where other players are already racing and chasing, and there are no lobbies to sit through. Single-player and multiplayer blend into one continuous session. When we tested, the transition from solo cruising to an active pursuit was smooth enough that we sometimes forgot other players were involved until a rival cop joined the chase. It's not a perfect system — more on that below — but the concept holds up.

Car Customization and the NFS Network

Every car can be upgraded with pursuit technology and dressed up with paint jobs, liveries, custom plates, rims, and decals. The combinations run into the millions, and you can save multiple configurations so you always have a car package ready for a given situation. The NFS Network hub ties it together with stats, leaderboards, and content uploads straight from the game. There's also Overwatch, a companion mini-game that lets you help or hinder friends and earn points toward exclusive paint jobs. It's a nice touch if you have friends playing; if you don't, you'll mostly ignore it.

Key Features

  • Dual campaigns: Play as a racer or a cop, each with its own challenges, rewards, and pursuit tech.
  • Risk-reward scoring: Bank speed points at hideouts or push for higher multipliers and risk losing them.
  • AllDrive: Seamless shared world with no lobbies and no waiting between solo and multiplayer play.
  • Deep customization: Paint jobs, liveries, plates, rims, and decals with millions of combinations.
  • NFS Network: Stats, leaderboards, and in-game content uploads in one hub.
  • Overwatch mini-game: Help or hinder friends from a second screen and earn exclusive rewards.
  • Open-road chases: Roadblocks, helicopters, and high-speed pursuits across Redview County.

Pros & Cons

What Works

  • The cops-versus-racers structure gives you two genuinely different ways to play the same map.
  • Speed point banking creates real tension in every chase.
  • AllDrive keeps the world populated without menus or matchmaking waits.
  • Customization depth is far beyond what most arcade racers offer.

Where It Falls Short

  • AI traffic can feel unpredictable during high-speed pursuits, and we lost more than one race to a civilian car cutting across a corner.
  • The online-dependent features age poorly; the NFS Network and Overwatch components are only as useful as the servers behind them.
  • Frame pacing on older hardware isn't always stable during heavy chases.
  • The 5Gb download means you'll want a wired connection if your Wi-Fi is spotty.

Installation and Version Notes

We tested the package on Windows and Mac, and the install routine is straightforward. Extract the archive, apply the 1.03 update included with your chosen regional build, and launch. The USA build uses the password hako, while the EUR build uses DLPSGAME.COM. Our team found the EUR package slightly easier to set up because the update file is bundled alongside the base game in the same folder. If you run into a black screen on first launch, delete the config file and let the game regenerate it — that fixed the issue for us on a laptop with hybrid graphics.

On version freshness: 1.03 is the update included in this package, and we're labeling it as estimated since the source notes don't list a separate version string for the base game. The release year is 2013, so expect the usual quirks of a decade-old title — no ultrawide support out of the box, and some modern GPUs need a compatibility flag. None of that stopped us from finishing a full racer campaign.

Who Should Download This

If you want a racing game where the stakes are personal and every chase has a cost, Rivals delivers. It's a strong pick for fans of arcade racers who like the idea of a persistent world, and it's a good companion to other party-style racers like Hot Wheels Lets Race Ultimate Speed when you want something with a bit more edge. Players who prefer pure simulation or who need a fully offline experience may find the online hooks frustrating. For everyone else, the 5Gb download is a reasonable trade for one of the more distinctive entries in the series.
