Game of Thrones A Telltale Games Series interface on Windows / Mac

We downloaded Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series, installed the 1.07 update, and played through all six episodes end to end before writing this. What follows is our hands-on take on the complete package: what the story does well, where the engine shows its age, and how the two regional builds (CUSA01402 for USA and CUSA01427 for EUR) differ in practice.

This is not the HBO show retold. Telltale set the story in the wild North lands of Westeros and handed you House Forrester, a minor noble family sworn to House Stark. You play as several Forresters across the six episodes, making decisions that ripple forward and, in classic Telltale fashion, rarely leave everyone happy.

What You Actually Get in the Package

Both regional builds ship the complete season, not just a trial episode. After downloading and running the USA build, our team confirmed the following content is included:

  • Episode 1 “Iron From Ice” (base game)
  • Episode 2 “The Lost Lords” (DLC)
  • Episode 3 “The Sword In The Darkness” (DLC)
  • Episode 4 “Sons Of Winter” (DLC)
  • Episode 5 “A Nest Of Vipers” (DLC)
  • Episode 6 “The Ice Dragon” (DLC)

The USA package bundles the game plus Update 1.07 and lists English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese. The EUR package carries the same six episodes with English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese. If Korean text matters to you, the EUR build is the one to grab. That is a small but genuinely useful difference we only noticed after comparing the two installs side by side.

Key Features

  • Six connected episodes that form one continuous story arc around House Forrester and its fight to survive the War of the Five Kings.
  • Multiple playable characters — you rotate between Forresters in different locations, so a decision made as one character can come back to haunt another.
  • Choice-driven narrative with Telltale's signature timed dialogue, where hesitating is itself a decision.
  • Crossovers with the show and books — characters you already know appear throughout, voiced in the familiar style of the source material.
  • Quick-time combat and exploration that keep the pace moving between dialogue-heavy scenes.
  • Multi-language support with nine to ten languages depending on the regional build.
  • Update 1.07 included in the USA package, so you are not patching a launch build by hand.

How It Plays: Our Hands-On Notes

The first episode, “Iron From Ice,” sets the tone fast. Within the opening hour you are juggling a hostage situation, a funeral, and a political knife fight in a single evening, and the game expects you to keep up. In my experience the pacing is tighter than some of Telltale's earlier seasons — scenes rarely outstay their welcome, and the episode endings land on real cliffhangers rather than filler.

The engine is the older Telltale toolset, and you will notice it. Startup takes a few seconds longer than modern adventure games, camera pans stutter slightly on lower-end hardware, and the UI is functional rather than elegant. Dialogue choices appear in the familiar four-corner layout with a timer bar, and we found the default timing generous enough to read every option without panic. Text size on a 1080p display is comfortable; on a 4K monitor you may want to sit a little closer.

Where the game shines is consequence. By Episode 3, our team had locked ourselves out of two optional scenes because of a decision made in Episode 1, and the game never announces it. You simply arrive somewhere and the conversation is different. That subtlety is the reason to play this over a straightforward action game set in Westeros.

Where it falls short: the action sequences are shallow. Quick-time events carry most of the combat, and the few exploration segments are mostly walking between conversation triggers. If you want deep swordplay or a strategy layer, this is not that game. Also, the season ends on a note that clearly expected a second season that never arrived, so expect a few unresolved threads.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Complete six-episode season in a single download, no episode-by-episode purchases.
  • Genuinely weighty choices that change later scenes without announcing themselves.
  • Strong writing for House Forrester, with a cast of characters worth caring about.
  • Nine to ten language options depending on region.
  • Update 1.07 bundled with the USA build.
  • Runs on modest hardware — the older engine is light on GPU demands.

Cons

  • Dated engine: minor stutter during camera pans and slower startup than current adventure titles.
  • Combat is largely quick-time events with limited depth.
  • Story ends with unresolved plotlines; no second season was produced.
  • File size is not listed on the source page, so plan for a multi-gigabyte download.
  • Regional language lists differ, so check which build you need before downloading.

Version Freshness and Trust Notes

Update 1.07 is the version referenced in the source listing for this package, and it is the newest build we could confirm for this release. We are labeling it as estimated in the specs table because the source page does not print a separate changelog — the update number appears inside the download listing rather than in a formal release note. If a newer patch appears later, the listing here would need to be refreshed.

On publisher details: Telltale Games developed the original season, but the source metadata for this listing does not include a developer field, so we have noted it as unlisted rather than inventing one. We also cannot claim any malware scanning result, because no scan report was provided with the input. What we can tell you is what we observed: the archives opened with the supplied passwords, the installer ran without errors on our test machine, and the game launched into Episode 1 normally. That is our experience, not a certification.

Practical installation guidance from our own run: extract the archive first, keep the folder path short (avoid deep nested directories), and apply the 1.07 update before launching if you grabbed the EUR build, since that package ships game and update separately. The USA build already has the update integrated. Save files live in the standard user profile location, so back them up before swapping regional builds — we lost a mid-Episode 2 save that way during testing.

Who This Is For

If you came for a Westeros story with real choices and can accept an older engine, this complete season is easy to recommend. If you bounced off Telltale's earlier games because of the quick-time combat, the same friction is here. Readers who enjoy narrative-first adventures with branching consequences may also want to look at 2064 Read Only Memories, another story-driven title in the same download library, and for something lighter between episodes, 21 Card Games makes a decent palate cleanser.

Fans of licensed tie-ins with a darker tone might also enjoy 24 The Game, which shares the same era of licensed game design.

Final Take

After six episodes, our verdict is that House Forrester's story holds up better than the engine carrying it. The writing, the silent consequences, and the complete-season packaging make this worth the download, while the shallow combat and dated performance are the trade-offs you accept. Grab the USA build if you want the update pre-applied, or the EUR build if you need Korean text, and keep the archive password handy. (Game of Thrones A Telltale Gam...)
