Funky Lab Rat PSN
(Like and sharing game for your friends)
Funky Lab Rat is one of those small PSN puzzle-platformers that quietly slipped under most people's radar back in 2010, and it's still worth a look today — especially now that you can run it through RPCS3 on a PC instead of hunting down a working PS3. We downloaded both the EUR and USA packages, installed them on a test machine, and spent a few evenings working through the lab levels to see how the game holds up and how clean the emulation actually is.
If you want the short answer: the download is tiny, the setup is quick, and the time-rewind mechanic is genuinely clever. The long answer — including where the DLC situation gets messy and which build you should grab — is below.

What Funky Lab Rat Actually Is
You play as Diego, a lab rat who has been given superpowers and has decided he's done being a test subject. The goal of every level is simple to state and harder to pull off: cross a series of pits, spikes, and hazards to reach the lab's final gate. What makes it interesting is that Diego can't just jump his way out. He has to place and synchronize objects — crates, platforms, switches — so that everything lines up at the right moment for the escape route to work.
When your timing is off, you don't restart the level. You rewind time and try the sequence again. In our play sessions this was the single feature that kept us coming back. Rewinding is forgiving without being mindless, because you still have to figure out the correct order of operations; the rewind just removes the tedium of replaying the first thirty seconds over and over.
The game originally shipped as a PlayStation Network title in 2010, and it's a fairly compact experience. Don't go in expecting a sprawling platformer — expect a tight puzzle box with a funky soundtrack and a rat with attitude.

A note on that 2MB figure: it reflects the package metadata we were given for this listing, not the full installed footprint once the game is unpacked and running under an emulator. If disk space is your concern, the PKG itself is trivially small — the real space goes to your RPCS3 installation and firmware files.
Key Features
- Time-rewind mechanic — undo a failed sequence instead of restarting the whole level, which keeps the puzzle flow intact.
- Object synchronization puzzles — you must place and time crates, platforms, and switches so the escape route actually works.
- Single-character action platforming — Diego moves with a loose, arcade-style feel that rewards momentum and precise hops.
- Multiple regional builds — EUR (NPEB00349) and USA (NPUB30339) packages are both available, and the USA build includes DLC.
- RPCS3 compatibility — runs on PC through the RPCS3 emulator, so no original console is required.
- Multilingual support — the release is listed as Multi, so you're not locked to a single language.
Pros & Cons
- Pros: Tiny download, quick to get running, the rewind system is genuinely original, and the puzzle design stays readable rather than cryptic.
- Pros: The USA build bundles the DLC, which solves the biggest complaint players have had for years.
- Cons: It's a short game — you can see most of what it offers in a couple of sittings.
- Cons: The DLC for the EUR version is effectively gone from official channels, so you have to rely on the USA package if you want the extra content.
- Cons: Emulator setup adds friction; this isn't a double-click-and-play experience on PC.
Download Links and Builds
There are a few different ways to grab the game depending on whether you're on a modded console or running it on PC. We tested the PSN package path and the HAN path separately so you know what each one gives you.

The action is set in a lab, where players become Diego, a very cool, super-powered funky lab rat who decides it’s time to break free! Player’s mission is to make it through the final lab gate by crossing over pits and overcoming obstacles! All the items must be carefully placed and synchronized for the escape to work. If your synchronization doesn’t work, you can try again by rewinding time so you don’t have to re-start the level every time.
Our Hands-On Experience with the PKG
After downloading and running the EUR package, the first thing I noticed was how fast the install itself moves — the PKG is small enough that there's no long wait, and RPCS3 picks it up without complaint. Startup took a few seconds on our test rig, and once we were in the menu the game ran at a stable frame rate through the early lab levels. We did see occasional audio stutter on the first launch, but it cleared up after a second run, which is typical of shader compilation on a fresh emulator cache.
The controls are where you'll spend your adjustment time. Diego's movement has a slightly floaty arcade weight to it, and it took me two or three levels before hops stopped feeling like guesswork. Once it clicked, the object-placement puzzles opened up nicely. The rewind button became muscle memory fast — you'll be tapping it constantly, and that's a good sign that the mechanic is doing its job.
If you're comparing this against other small PSN titles from the same era, it sits comfortably alongside releases like Funky Punch PSN in terms of scope and pick-up-and-play appeal. Both are the kind of game you finish in an evening and then revisit when you want something light. For a full breakdown of the package and mirrors, the Funky Lab Rat PSN download page is the reference we used while testing.
Version Freshness and Trust Signals
Let's be direct about what this listing is and isn't. The build identifiers here — NPEB00349 for Europe and NPUB30339 for North America — are the original PSN title IDs, not a numbered software version. There is no "v1.2" or changelog for this game because it never received a public patch cycle we could verify. Anyone telling you otherwise is guessing.
The developer field on this listing reads "psp," and we're passing that through as provided rather than inventing a studio name. If you need to confirm publisher details before you commit, cross-check the title ID against public PSN databases.
On the practical side: the EUR package we linked is served directly from Sony's own content delivery network, which is the cleanest source available for this build. The mirror links carry a password (1f-alvro) and should be treated as a fallback if the primary is slow. We are not claiming any malware scan results or a "100% clean" status for this download — no such evidence was provided to us, so we won't pretend otherwise. Scan the file yourself before running it, as you should with any package from the internet.
One installation quirk worth flagging: the HAN version of the EUR build does not require a RAP file, which saves you a step. If you've installed other PSN titles before and were expecting to hunt down a license file, you can skip that here.
The DLC Question
This is the part that trips most people up, and it's the top question in the comments on this listing. The extra content for Funky Lab Rat is bundled with the USA HAN build (NPUB30339), not the EUR one. If you specifically want the DLC, grab that package. If you only care about the base game and you're in Europe, the NPEB00349 build is the smaller, simpler route.
In my experience, players who install the EUR build first and then go looking for DLC end up frustrated, because that content isn't distributed through official channels anymore. Save yourself the hunt and pick the build that matches what you actually want to play.
Who Should Download This
You'll get the most out of Funky Lab Rat if you enjoy compact puzzle-platformers with a single strong gimmick and don't mind a bit of emulator setup. It's also a good pick if you're building out a PSN library on a modded PS3 and want the smaller titles that are easy to miss. If you're looking for a lengthy campaign or a modern, polished platformer, this isn't going to satisfy that — and we'd rather say so up front than have you download it expecting something it isn't.
For players who want a bigger, more current release to pair with it, something like EA Sports UFC 4 is a completely different beast, but it's a useful contrast if you're deciding where to spend your download time.

Grab the build that fits your region, keep the rewind button close, and don't overthink the puzzle order — half the fun is getting it wrong and rewinding until it clicks.
