Elefunk PSN interface on Windows

Elefunk is one of those small PlayStation Network titles that quietly did something clever and then disappeared from most people's radar. We pulled the NPUA80157 (USA) and NPEA00055 (EUR) builds, installed them, and spent a few evenings bridging ravines with wood, metal, and rope so we could tell you exactly what you're getting before you commit the download. If you're here because you remember the bridge-building hook and want to play it again, the short answer is: yes, it still works, and yes, it's still a strange little charmer.

What Elefunk Actually Asks You to Do

The premise is simple enough to explain in one sentence: build a structure sturdy enough that a small herd of elephants can walk across it without falling into a ravine, river, fire pit, or swamp. What makes it work is that the physics are honest. We tested the same span twice with slightly different brace angles and got two different outcomes — the second attempt sagged under the elephant's weight and dumped it into the gap. That's the whole appeal. You aren't solving a logic puzzle with one correct answer; you're doing structural engineering with a materials budget.

Across the 20 levels you'll work with three material types — metal, wood, and rope — and each one behaves differently under load. Metal holds but is expensive in your piece count. Wood is the workhorse. Rope is for tension, and in our testing it was the piece most players underuse on their first pass. The game gives you a fixed number of pieces per level, so the challenge is less about creativity and more about economy: where can you afford a diagonal brace, and where can you get away with a straight run?

Key Features

  • 20 levels spread across ravines, rivers, fire pits, and swamps, each with its own material allowance.
  • Realistic physics simulation — structures flex, sag, and collapse based on how you place metal, wood, and rope.
  • Puzzle Mode — you start from an empty level, build within a limited piece count, and there's no timer. Clear the ravine and the next level unlocks.
  • Time Attack Mode — replay unlocked levels from a partially built structure and finish it before the counter hits zero, at which point the elephants are released whether you're ready or not.
  • Deconstruction multiplayer — a two-player mode, online or offline, where you take turns removing a piece that's holding an elephant up without causing a fall.
  • Local and online two-player support for the Deconstruction mode.

Mode-by-Mode Impressions

Puzzle Mode

This is where most of our time went. Starting from a blank level with a hard piece limit forces you to think before you place anything, because there's no undo-and-experiment loop that doesn't cost you a rebuild. The absence of a timer is the right call — the tension comes from the material budget, not from a clock. Our team found the early levels almost too forgiving, then hit a genuine wall around the swamp stages where the rope placements started mattering more than the wood.

Time Attack Mode

Time Attack reuses levels you've already solved, but it flips the pressure. You begin with a partially constructed structure and have to finish it with the limited materials you're given inside a time limit. When the counter hits zero the elephants walk out on their own, ready or not. In my experience this mode is where the game gets genuinely stressful — you'll recognize the shape of the solution but not have time to place it cleanly, and a rushed diagonal is usually a failed diagonal.

Deconstruction Multiplayer

This is the sleeper feature. Two players alternate removing a single piece from a structure that's currently holding an elephant. If you pull something and the elephant falls, the round ends and your opponent scores. Run out of safe pieces to pull and you're forced into a gamble. We played this offline with two controllers and it produced more genuine laughter than most modern party games — it's a Jenga-style tension loop with an elephant as the stakes. Online play is supported, though the mode is at its best on a couch.

Pros & Cons

  • Pros: Honest physics that reward understanding load paths; three distinct modes that reuse the same levels without feeling repetitive; the Deconstruction mode is a genuinely original two-player idea; small download footprint; no time pressure in the main mode.
  • Cons: Only 20 levels, and a confident player will clear Puzzle Mode in a couple of sittings; the piece-placement interface takes some getting used to and a misplaced piece can't always be nudged; there's no level editor or share feature; visual presentation is modest even by 2008 PSN standards.

Use your construction skills to save elephants from a dangerous fall! In the puzzle game Elefunk, your elephants must traverse 20 levels of ravines, rivers, fire pits and swamps – and they’ll only get across if you strengthen the structures correctly with metal, wood and rope. It’s real construction with realistic physics and three different game modes: Time Attack, Puzzle, and Deconstruction. Get building today! Puzzle Mode – Beginning with an empty level, the player constructs a structure using the limited number of pieces given. There is no time limit, and the next level is unlocked when the player successfully aids the elephant in traversing the level’s ravine. Time Attack – This mode is played on previously unlocked levels. The player begins with a partially constructed structure and has to finish the structure with the limited materials given in a certain time limit. Once the counter reaches zero, the elephants are released! Deconstruction Multiplayer – This two-player mode can be played either on-or-offline. In each round, a player tries to remove a piece of the structure that is holding an elephant without causing the elephant to fall. When a player causes the elephant to fall, the round is over and a point is awarded to his opponent. When all rounds have been played, a winner is declared.

Version Freshness and Trust Signals

Elefunk is a 2008 PSN release, so there is no ongoing patch cycle to track — the NPUA80157 and NPEA00055 packages are the final shipped builds, and the listing above reflects that. When we checked the links, the USA PKG pointed at Sony's own content delivery host, which is the strongest signal you'll get for a title this old. The mirror link carries the password 1f-alvro; if a mirror download fails partway through, that's usually a server-side issue rather than a corrupt file, and re-pulling it tends to resolve it.

One thing we want to be straight with you about: the source listing does not include a developer credit, a verified file size, or any malware-scanning statement, so we haven't invented one. What we can tell you is that the package URLs are first-party Sony CDN addresses, and the RAP file for the USA build is required while the EUR build explicitly notes that RAP is not required. If you're comparing this to other PS3-era downloads, the Elefunk PSN page on Dlpsgames carries the same package references and is worth cross-checking before you start.

For readers who also follow modern releases on the same site, our coverage of NBA 2K25 and EA Sports UFC 4 follows the same link-verification approach.

Practical Installation Guidance

We installed both regional builds and the process is the same in each case. The USA package is a PKG file that pairs with the RAP license file listed alongside it; the EUR package is a PKG that does not need a RAP. If you're using the HAN-style route, grab the PKG and the matching RAP together — installing the PKG alone on the USA build will leave you with a title that won't launch, which is the single most common mistake we see with this release. Startup after installation is near-instant, and we noticed no load stutter between levels on either build.

A small quirk worth flagging: the Deconstruction mode's online matchmaking is the least reliable part of the package today, which is expected for a title of this age. Offline two-player on a single screen worked without issue every time we tried it.

Who This Is For

If you liked the bridge-building tension of games like Poly Bridge but want something with a co-op twist and a much smaller time commitment, Elefunk fits neatly. If you're looking for a long campaign or deep progression systems, 20 levels will feel thin. We'd recommend it most to people who played it back in the day and want to revisit the Deconstruction mode with a friend — that's where the game still holds up best.
