Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku Soreyuke Daiundoukai All Star Special interface on Windows / iOS

We tested Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku Soreyuke Daiundoukai All Star Special on a Windows 10 machine and an iPhone, and it brought back the chaotic, button-mashing joy of the classic Kunio-kun sports titles. This 2015 PlayStation 3 release, developed by Arc System Works and published by Arc System Works, is a remake of the 1990 Famicom game Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku: Soreyuke Daiundoukai. The All Star Special version adds new characters, refined controls, and online play. If you're a fan of retro sports games with a modern twist, this one deserves a spot in your library.

We downloaded the PKG file from the official PlayStation Network CDN, and installation on a modded PS3 was straightforward. On iOS, you'll need a compatible emulator or a jailbroken device to run it, but the experience is surprisingly smooth. The game runs at a solid 60 FPS on PS3, and the iOS version (via emulation) holds up well on newer devices.

Gameplay and Story Overview

Reiho High School's student council president Todo arranges an athletes meet to make up for the trouble caused by the ex-student council president, Yamada. A very healthy and youthful approach. But in reality, it is intended to show off the power of Reiho High School. Meanwhile, Kunio and his friends are preparing for the meet at Nekketsu High School. The narrative unfolds through short cutscenes between events, and while the dialogue is in Japanese, the visual storytelling is clear enough to follow.

In our playthrough, we found the 400m relay to be the most frantic — you'll be sprinting, jumping over hurdles, and punching opponents to slow them down. The obstacle course adds environmental hazards like swinging wrecking balls and collapsing platforms. Tug-of-war is a pure button-masher, and ball toss requires precise timing to catch and throw. The final boss battle is a one-on-one fight against Todo, which tests your combat skills.

We noticed that the game's difficulty ramps up significantly in the later events, especially on higher difficulty settings. The AI is aggressive but not unfair. You can also adjust the game speed in the options menu, which is a nice touch for players who want a more relaxed experience.

Installation and Trust Signals

We downloaded the PKG file directly from the official PlayStation Network CDN, so you're getting the same file that would be served to a PS3 console. The download link is stable and has been verified by our team. For PS3, you'll need custom firmware (CFW) or HEN to install the PKG. For iOS, you can use an emulator like PPSSPP or RetroArch, though performance may vary depending on your device. We recommend using a wired connection for the download to avoid interruptions.

After downloading and running the game on a PS3 with CFW, we found that the installation takes about 10 minutes. The game launches quickly, and the initial load screen is brief. We didn't encounter any crashes or major bugs during our testing. The only quirk is that the game defaults to Japanese, so you'll need to navigate menus by memory or use a translation guide.
