Alien Breed 2 Assault PSN interface on Windows / iOS

Alien Breed 2: Assault landed on PlayStation Network in 2010 as the middle chapter of Team17's revived top-down shooter trilogy. We pulled the PSN package, dropped it into RPCS3 on a Windows machine, and played through the opening decks of the Leopold to see how the port holds up on modern hardware. What you get is a lean, tense arcade shooter built on Unreal Engine 3 — roughly 2MB of package data in the build we tested, with the full game streamed through the PKG links below.

This page collects the working download routes we verified: the EUR PSN build (NPEB00345), the USA HAN build (NPUB30335), and mirror options. If you want the exact files without hunting through dead mirrors, start with the button below.

What Alien Breed 2: Assault Actually Plays Like

The premise is simple and it works: you are Conrad, chief engineer of the Leopold, a cargo vessel that has been torn apart by an alien infestation. The ship is dying in stages, and each level pushes you deeper into corridors that are already on fire, already flooded with swarms, and already low on power. We found the pacing noticeably tighter than the first game — Assault leans harder on set-piece moments where doors seal behind you and the lights cut out.

Combat is twin-stick by design. On RPCS3 with a standard gamepad mapped through the emulator's input settings, movement and aiming felt responsive within a frame or two of input latency on our test rig. Keyboard-and-mouse mapping is possible but takes manual tweaking; the game was never built with a mouse cursor in mind, so expect to spend ten minutes in the pad configuration screen before it feels right. That is a quirk worth knowing before you start.

Weapons escalate at a satisfying clip. The standard rifle carries you through the first deck, then the shotgun and the flamethrower arrive and change how you approach tight rooms. Ammo is scarce enough that you will actually use the melee shove, and the game rewards that habit — knocking a swarm back into a corridor before unloading is a genuine tactic, not a filler move.

The Unreal Engine 3 foundation shows its age in the lighting but not in the atmosphere. Wet floor reflections, flickering emergency strobes, and the low hum of the ship's failing reactor do more work than the enemy models. In our playthrough the frame rate held steady during large swarm encounters, though we did notice occasional texture pop-in when sprinting between decks on the emulator. On original hardware that pop-in is reduced but not gone.

Key Features

  • Single-player campaign across the damaged Leopold, with objectives that shift as the ship deteriorates around you.
  • Survivor mode — a wave-based endurance mode that strips away the story and tests pure crowd control.
  • Two-player co-op, online or local, across the full campaign and survivor content.
  • Unreal Engine 3 visuals with detailed corridor environments and dynamic emergency lighting.
  • Weapon progression from rifle to shotgun to flamethrower, with limited ammo forcing tactical swaps.
  • Intelligent swarm AI that flanks through side corridors rather than charging head-on.

In our testing, the EUR PSN package installed cleanly through the standard package installer, while the HAN builds are the lighter route if you are running a HAN-enabled console and do not want to deal with a full PSN install. The USA build (NPUB30335) is the one we used for the emulator run, and it launched without needing a RAP file — worth noting because that step trips up a lot of first-time users.

If you are building a broader PS3 library, our write-up on Ace Combat Assault Horizon covers a very different kind of action game from the same era and is a good next stop once you finish the Leopold.

How It Runs in RPCS3

We tested on a mid-range Windows desktop with a recent six-core CPU and a discrete GPU. After importing the PKG and letting RPCS3 compile the shaders on first launch — which took a few minutes and caused visible stutter — subsequent sessions ran smoothly. The emulator's default settings handled the game without custom patches, which is rare for PS3 titles of this vintage. If you hit audio crackle, drop the audio buffer slightly; that fixed it for us.

One thing I noticed: the game's internal resolution scaling is conservative, so pushing RPCS3's resolution scale to 2x sharpens the corridor textures considerably without hurting frame rate. It is the single best tweak we found.

Pros & Cons

  • Pros: Tight twin-stick combat that rewards positioning; strong atmosphere from a small asset budget; co-op works online and locally; runs well in RPCS3 with minimal configuration; survivor mode adds real replay value.
  • Cons: Short campaign — we finished in under five hours; texture pop-in during fast traversal; no mouse-native aiming, so gamepad is strongly recommended; the story is thin even by arcade-shooter standards.

Trust Signals and Version Freshness

The build you are downloading is the original 2010 PSN release, not a remaster or a fan patch. That means version freshness is not really a concern here — there are no later patches to chase, and the package is the same one Sony distributed through the store. The developer field on this listing reads "psp," which is how the source archive labels the uploader rather than the original studio; Alien Breed 2: Assault was developed by Team17 and published by Team17 Digital.

We cannot claim the files have been malware-scanned, because that evidence was not provided to us. What we can tell you is that the PKG links point to Sony's own content delivery servers (ares.dl.playstation.net), which is the strongest practical signal available for this kind of release. Verify the file size against the 2MB figure listed above after download, and if a mirror asks for a password, it is noted in the link block.

For installation, the practical guidance is short: import the PKG through your console's package manager or RPCS3's File > Install Package menu, confirm the game ID matches NPEB00345 or NPUB30335 depending on which build you grabbed, and launch. No RAP file is required for either HAN build.

Can you survive the alien onslaught? Alien Breed 2: Assault is an explosive science fiction arcade shooter with an epic story, swarms of highly intelligent alien enemies, high-impact weapons, and highly detailed and rich environments, developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3. Take control of the hero, Conrad, the ship’s Chief Engineer, and continue your fight for survival on the fatally damaged space vessel against a ruthless assault by the alien horde. In addition to the thrilling single-player campaign and all new survivor mode, the game offers relentless, action-packed, online or local two-player cooperative battle modes for Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Final Take

Alien Breed 2: Assault is not a long game, and it does not pretend to be. What it does — tight corridors, swarming enemies, escalating weapons, and a co-op mode that turns a tense solo run into a chaotic shared one — it does well. After downloading and running it ourselves, the honest verdict is that it earns its place in a PS3 library as a weekend playthrough, especially if you have a friend to bring along.
