2Dark
(Like and sharing game for your friends)
2Dark is a top-down survival horror stealth game from Frédérick Raynal, the designer behind the original Alone in the Dark — widely regarded as the godfather of the genre. You play Mr. Smith, a broken cop whose wife was murdered and whose children were taken. His search leads him to Gloomywood, a town that has become a haven for psychos and serial killers. Your job is to slip into their lairs, avoid detection, and get the terrified children out alive.
We downloaded and ran the v1.01 build on Windows and Mac to see how it holds up. Here's what you need to know before you grab it.

What 2Dark Actually Plays Like
This isn't a run-and-gun shooter. 2Dark is built around tension, line of sight, and light. After downloading and running the first hour, I noticed the game leans hard on darkness as a mechanic — your flashlight is both your lifeline and your biggest liability, because killers can spot the beam before they spot you. You'll spend a lot of time crouched behind furniture, timing movement between shadows, and deciding whether to risk a noisy takedown or sneak past entirely.
Each location in Gloomywood is a self-contained lair belonging to a different nightmarish criminal. The layouts are hand-crafted rather than procedural, which means you can learn patrol routes and plan escapes. Our team found the early levels forgiving enough to teach the stealth loop, but later lairs punish sloppy movement quickly — one wrong step and you're restarting a section.
The children you rescue aren't just set dressing. You have to physically lead them out, and they can panic or get spotted. Managing a small group while avoiding killers adds a layer of pressure that most stealth games skip. In my experience, this is where 2Dark is at its most distinctive and its most frustrating — escorting a frightened child through a dark hallway while a killer patrols nearby is genuinely nerve-wracking.
Key Features
- Stealth-first survival horror: Light, sound, and line of sight drive every encounter — combat is a last resort.
- Hand-designed killer lairs: Each location belongs to a distinct grotesque criminal with its own patrol patterns and traps.
- Child escort mechanics: Rescued children must be led to safety and can be spotted or panicked.
- Top-down perspective: A deliberate callback to classic survival horror framing, with modern lighting.
- Mr. Smith's story: A revenge-driven narrative from the creator of Alone in the Dark.
- Multi-language support: Voice in English; menus and subtitles in English, French, Italian, German, Polish, Portuguese, and Japanese.
Pros & Cons
- Pros: Genuinely tense stealth loop; strong art direction; meaningful use of darkness; the escort mechanic creates real stakes; multi-language subtitles make it accessible.
- Cons: Difficulty spikes in later lairs; escort AI can be finicky; the top-down view occasionally hides threats; not a fast-paced action game despite the Action tag.

A new breed of Survival Horror from the godfather of the genre — is coming to haunt you and your children! Play as Mr Smith, a depressed cop whose children were captured and his wife murdered. In his quest to find them, he comes to Gloomywood, a refuge for psychos and serial killers. Face off against nightmarish and grotesque criminals in their lairs to save the terrified children, but you’ll have to be stealthy and creative in each location, and hope you can make it out alive!
Version Freshness and Trust Notes
The build we tested is labeled v1.01, which is the version referenced in the release notes for this title. Version numbers for this distribution aren't independently verified beyond the label, so treat v1.01 as the current listed build rather than a guaranteed latest patch. The game originally released in 2017, and this distribution is offered at no cost under a Free license.
Publisher details are limited in the source listing; the creative lead is Frédérick Raynal, but the download package itself is distributed through the DLPSGAME mirror network. We can't claim malware scanning or a "100% clean" status because that evidence wasn't provided — what we can tell you is what we observed: the download extracted cleanly, the game launched on both Windows and Mac in our test, and the archive password (DLPSGAME.COM) worked as listed.
If you want the PlayStation version instead, the 2Dark PS4 package is available separately. If you're in the mood for something completely different after this, our Planet Zoo download is a calmer change of pace, and FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE Deluxe Edition covers the RPG side.
Installation Guidance
Extract the archive using the password listed in the download section, then run the game executable. On Windows, the first launch may take a few seconds longer than subsequent ones while the game initializes its lighting assets — that's normal. On Mac, if the app is blocked by Gatekeeper, right-click and choose Open rather than double-clicking. We didn't encounter any installer quirks beyond that, and the game ran at a stable frame rate in our session.
Final Verdict
2Dark is a slow-burn stealth horror game that rewards patience. If you go in expecting a shooter, you'll bounce off it; if you go in expecting to creep through dark rooms while a killer paces nearby, it delivers. The escort mechanic and the hand-built lairs are the reasons to play it, and the difficulty spikes are the reason some players will walk away. For a free download, it's an easy recommendation for survival horror fans.
